DOB-Academy is nominated for the Public Outreach Award 2019. This prestigious award recognises outstanding achievements in the field of public outreach by companies and the DOB-Academy Teach-the-Teacher sessions have been nominated for 2019! The winner will be announced during the Offshore Energy Opening Gala Dinner & Awards Show on October 7th this year.

The goal of DOB-Academy is to provide challenging education to the offshore energy industry to accelerate the energy transition. With respect to public outreach, DOB-Academy engages with primary and secondary schools; however, the activities concerning the Teach-the-Teacher sessions are concentrated around (higher) vocational education. During 4 sessions per year, teachers from (higher) vocational educational institutes are invited to join technical sessions free of charge. Each session focuses on a specific offshore wind topic and gives the teachers new practical insights into the industry which they can incorporate in their own lectures.

By organising these sessions, DOB-Academy wants to motivate teachers and their educational institutes to develop more wind energy dedicated minors, courses, entire curricula, etc. Teachers from different backgrounds, regions and educational institutes become familiar with each other which stimulates future cooperation and knowledge sharing. Ultimately, the goal is to motivate pupils and students to choose a career in offshore wind, which is necessary for The Netherlands in order to become and remain an important player in the offshore wind industry.
