Offshore energy courses

Offshore wind operation and maintenance

2 day course

Offshore wind operation and maintenance

In this two day course, participants will learn about the main strategies behind offshore wind operation and maintenance.

Dates:
3 and 4 April 2019
Fee:
€ 1.500,00 excl. VAT

Course Content

To keep offshore wind farms operational, maintenance is key. Unfortunately this can be costly. In this two day course, participants will learn about the main strategies behind offshore wind operation and maintenance. Learning to make a comparative assessment between maintenance costs and downtime losses is of vital importance in wind farm operation. In a series of theoretical lectures, the entire playing field will be examined as a coalescence of material, equipment, mechanics and engineers, which together define the costs of operation. In addition, the methodology behind maintenance management and the future of operation and maintenance will be discussed. To finalise the course, the theoretical knowledge will be put into practice in a series of challenging games.

Guest Lectures

Remco Streppel (Outsmart) on day-to-day challenges in maintaining an offshore wind farm

Willem Schrijver (Delta Lloyd) on insurance

Target Audience

This course is designed for future wind farm operators and those affiliated with offshore wind farm operations.

Programme

Day 1: Maintenance

The first day of the course will be dedicated to maintenance. The day will start with the handover of a newly installed wind farm and an overview of all the relevant stakeholders. This will be followed by a lecture on modelling and planning maintenance operations. In a hands-on case, participants will be challenged with the task of maintaining a wind farm and will experience the effects of different maintenance strategies. The final lecture of the morning will focus on possible failures in a wind farm. After the lunch participants will act as mechanics attempting to find the cause of wind turbine failures in a practical case. This will be followed by a lecture on health, safety and environment. The day will be closed with a guest lecture about the day-to-day challenges in maintaining an offshore wind farm.

Day 2: Operation

The second day will focus on operating an offshore wind farm. The day will start with an introduction on the process of power generating at an offshore windfarm. Thereafter, participants will experience the challenges of power trading during an inspiring case. After a short break, all the aspects of power trading, subsidies and the cost of energy will be discussed. This will be followed by lectures on contracting and insurance. The course will end with a preview on future technologies and an exam to test the acquired knowledge.
