Introduction offshore oil and gas

2 day course

Introduction offshore oil and gas

In this course, participants will gain insight into the complete offshore oil and gas playing field, from technical engineering aspects to political and societal context.

Dates:
2 and 3 October 2019
12 and 13 December 2019
Fee:
€ 1.500,00 excl. VAT

WHY THIS TRAINING COURSE IS OF INTEREST TO YOU:

  • To gain a clear insight into the lifecycle of oil and gas production facilities
  • To understand the process of formation, extraction and processing of oil and gas in a typical field
  • To attain knowledge about technical aspects of the design, installation and operation of an oil and gas project
  • To comprehend the complete offshore playing field, from the technical engineering aspects to the political and societal context

COURSE CONTENT

For decades, humankind has been extracting oil and gas at sea as a source of energy and for the production of other products. In this two-day training course, you will learn the basics of the offshore oil and gas industry. You will also gain insight into the complete offshore playing field, ranging from the technical engineering aspects to the political and societal context. Therefore, learning to speak a common language and understanding the basics of this industry is of great importance to anyone working in this sector. Our informative lectures are theoretically solid but not excessively detailed, so you will acquire a full understanding of the different aspects behind recent oil and gas projects. This theoretical knowledge will then be put into practice through the use of inspiring cases.

This course and its material are written and given entirely in English, however if all participants are Dutch, it is possible to give the lectures in Dutch.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This offshore oil and gas training course has been specially developed for engineers new to the oil and gas industry, as well as non-technical professionals who are either working in this industry or have clients from the industry. For example, professionals with a banking, insurance or environmental background.

PROGRAMMA

Day 1 (9:00 – 17:30)

The day will begin with an introduction to the history of the offshore oil and gas industry, and a discussion on the influence of relevant economic and societal factors on the sector. Next, we will explain the manner in which oil and gas are formed and extracted in order to clarify the process of reservoir engineering, which will then be explained. A development case will provide more insight into this process. After lunch, loading issues in an offshore environment will be addressed, after which we will head to our lab and will create and test a bottom founded structure during a practical case there. Finally, the types, characteristics and design choices of bottom founded structures will be presented.

In short:

  • An introduction to the history of the offshore oil and gas industry
  • The influence of relevant economic and societal factors
  • The manner in which oil and gas is formed and extracted
  • The process of reservoir engineering, including a development case

Lunchtime is from 12:45 to 13:30: enjoy our 100 percent organic lunch

  • Loading issues in an offshore environment
  • Practical case in our lab: create and test a bottom founded structure
  • Characteristics and design choices of bottom founded structures

Day 2 (9:00 – 17:30)

Health, safety and environment are crucial topics in any oil and gas project and they will be the starting point of the second day. Next, the types and characteristics of floating structures, topsides and processing modules will be explained, as well as the design choices that are available. This will be put into practice when a topside on a floating structure is designed in a hands-on case. The course will continue with an overview of fabrication, transportation, installation and decommissioning techniques. Upcoming innovations and trends will also be presented. The day will end with a field development game so that you can apply the knowledge you have learnt during the course, and there will be an exam to test the knowledge acquired.

In short:

  • Health, safety and environment in the offshore oil and gas industry
  • Types, characteristics and design choices, regarding floating structures, topsides and processing modules. With a hands-on case
  • Fabrication, transportation, installation and decommissioning techniques

Lunchtime is from 12:45 to 13:30: enjoy our 100 percent organic lunch

  • Upcoming innovations and trends
  • End game: apply what you have learnt
  • Test your knowledge exam
