Course Content

This course provides insight into the use of contracts in the development of offshore wind farms. Important decisions for contract management are made prior to the construction phase. Therefore, this course will address contract design in all main phases in the lifecycle of a wind farm. From project initiation, via design & procurement, construction up to and including operations & maintenance, participants will learn what is important from a contractual point of view.

The course will focus on the possible decisions for a ‘Form of Contract’. It will highlight the effects of these decisions and explain what the most important considerations for strategic contractual choices are.  At the end of this course participants will have insight in the most commonly used forms of contracting and why to use them in the most important phases of the lifecycle of an offshore wind farm.

This course and its material are written and given entirely in English, however if all participants are Dutch, it is possible to give the lectures in Dutch.

Target Audience

This training course has been developed for offshore professionals seeking a better understanding of contracting in offshore energy.

Learning objectives

  • Acquiring knowledge about the most commonly used forms of contracting in offshore wind project development
  • Comprehending the different strategic choices in contracting that can be made in the different phases of the development of offshore wind farms.
  • Understanding the interaction between contracts in different phases of the lifecycle of a wind farm, e.g. the relation between construction contracts, O&M contracts and insurance contracts.

Programme

This one-day course consists of four modules. Each module addresses a phase in the development of an offshore wind farm, more precise the initiation, design & procurement, construction and operation & maintenance phase. In each module, the experienced teachers of DOB-Academy will address the general characteristics and technical background of that phase. Subsequently, the contractual challenges of that phase will be addressed by trainers from Aratis who have extensive contract management experience in offshore wind projects. The lectures will be alternated by two games in which the freshly gained knowledge will be applied to enhance the comprehension.

This course is created in cooperation with Aratis.
