In this one day course, participants will learn about the production, distribution, storage and use of hydrogen as an energy carrier.

Course Content

In order to reach our climate targets and commitments, hydrogen is considered as one of the key elements in the energy transition. In this one day introduction course, participants will learn about the various way to produce hydrogen; its distribution and storage possibilities and its impact on our energy grid. In a series of theoretical lectures, the applications for the end users are examined as well as its various possibilities. To finalise the course, the theoretical knowledge will be put into practice in a series of challenging games, where you will be challenged to produce Hydrogen offshore and transport it to various end-users.

Language

The ‘Introduction to hydrogen’ training course and its materials are written and given entirely in English. However, it will be possible to give the lectures in Dutch if all the participants are Dutch.

Target Audience

This course is designed for junior Engineers and those affiliated with hydrogen or renewable energy in general, but offshore energy in particular.

Schedule

This training course will be given several times in 2021. The list below shows the dates and the corresponding format in which they are scheduled.

  • 7 & 8 October two hybrid morning sessions

Programme

  • The day will start with the question why hydrogen may be considered as a possible energy carrier as well as its role within the energy transition. Participants will be invited to produce some hydrogen.
  • This will be followed by a lecture on the impact of hydrogen as an energy carrier , both in an economical sense as well as societal.
  • A lecture from the industry will bring insight into the process and the consumption.
  • In a hands-on case, participants will be challenged with the production and transportation from an offshore facility to various users.
  • A guest lecture on the impact of the end-user will be the final theoretical lecture before the participants are set the task to present their project.

Hybrid sessions 

Until further notice all training courses will be given in either online or hybrid format. Both hybrid and online training courses consist of live-streaming sessions with continuous interaction between the teachers and all participants. The difference between these formats is that during hybrid sessions a small number of participants can attend physically in our building in Delft, while others attend simultaneously via live-streaming. The content of the lectures and cases during a hybrid session is equal for both physical and online participants. All participants receive a DOB-box beforehand containing all materials required for both online and physical participation 

The maximum number of participants allowed at our training courses will depend on the Dutch COVID-19 regulations and may vary over time. Allotting the available physical seats will be done based on the first come first served’ principle.  

If necessary, or if we deem fit, we can and will switch from hybrid to online format to safeguard the health of our clients and colleagues. This implies that also the physical participants will have to attend via the livestreaming session online. We do not advise to wait for a next session to attend physicallyas we cannot guarantee safe participation at our building months or even weeks ahead of time. DOB-Academy reserves the right to switch from a hybrid to an online format up to 24 hours before the start of the training course. 

Registration closes a week before the training course in order to send all training materials on time.
